First there
was the Courtyard,
then last year’s addition, the Village.
Now Pembroke is offering another living option, Pembroke
Pointe apartments.
Currently under
construction, Pembroke Pointe Apartments are expected to have the
first set of students moved in June 1, 2004. The new apartments
will be located on Pembroke Pointe, the street beside Food Lion.
Let there be no confusion. The Pembroke Pointe Apartments are in
no way affiliated with the Village nor the Courtyard apartments.
“When
we look for a place to build apartments, we look for state supported
schools, the total enrollment, the total amount of rooms in the
dorms and other nearby apartments, and UNCP was in a significant
need for more living,” said Brenda Measamer, president of
Kennedy Reality.
The Pembroke
Pointe apartments are five apartment buildings and have 72 different
sized apartments. Although some students have just received the
newsletter for the open house that happened April 17, there has
been an incredible number of responses and applications to the apartments.
Freshman LeJordan
Chavis, who plans to move in Aug. 25, said he likes the idea of
a new apartment complex.
“The complex
is brand new, so if anything gets broken I’ll know I did it
and not somebody else who lived there before,” Chavis said.
The apartments
will be a 12 month lease and only open to UNCP students. The apartments
include many different living options.
The apartments
will range from $325 to $500, all depending on the number of rooms
requested. Rent is paid by each individual person. The rent will
include electricity, water, sewage, trash pick up and Internet,
although local telephone service and alarm monitoring are extra.
There is also
a pool and 24 hour gym that will be monitored by security cameras.
Each room has its own private bathroom. There is a $200 deposit
fee and a $25 application fee.
“We are
there to help the students and give them a pleasant experience,”
said Measamer.
