By Nathan Walls

In the spirit of the
season, the UNCP Music Department will step back in time once again
and host its annual Medieval Feast on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
in the Jones Center Auxiliary Gym.
The price of admission
is $35, with a table of 12 selling for $350. The event is nearly
sold out, but seats are still available.
The event will benefit
the Music Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to about
35 students.
Turkey, vegetarian meals,
beer, Carolina Ale and wine will be served as part of the feast.
Wassail will also be featured in the meal.
“Wassail is, in
our modern times, spiced apple cider,” Music Department Associate
Professor Gary Wright said. “The king and queen lead the toasts
that ask for good health and wealth. Those who would not drink would
be impolite to treasonous, sort of like the Republicans are describing
Democrats who don’t support the president.”
A presentation entitled:
“What Dead Carrier Chicken” will be performed.
“This year’s
title refers to the missing Carrier Chicken,” Wright said.
“The play centers around the scrubwomen, Maud and Prudence,
who discover the king’s dead carrier chicken and who yearn
for the better things in life, like a chance to be queen.”
Celena Robinson plays
Maud, while Krystal Nettles is Prudence.
A brass quintet and carolers
will also be on hand to entertain the audience, along with a jester,
fairy godfather, king and queen, royal court and monks.
The royal court will
consist of the Pembroke Singers. The monks will be the UNCP Concert
Choir.
Reservations
can be made by calling the Music Department at 521-6882.
