DVD highlights North Carolina tribes

The Native American Resource Center of UNCP has recently released the newest addition to its video library.

Photo by Ariel Houchens UNCP's Native American Resource Center showcases eight North Carolina tribes in a new DVD.

This video showcases the rich history and vibrant cultures of American Indians in North Carolina.

Included in the video are members of the eight tribes recognized by North Carolina, which are the Cherokee, Coharie, Haliwa-Saponi, Lumbee, Meherrin, the Occaneeci Band of the Saponi Nation, the Sappony, and the Waccamaw-Siouan tribes.

The video consists of traditional music, stories, and photographs, both historical and modern, interwoven to vividly portray the experiences of American Indians in North Carolina.

This account of the ways of life of American Indians was edited by Dr. Stan Knick, director and curator of UNCP’s Native American Museum and Resource Center.
