With basketball and wrestling seasons already underway,
SGA is sponsoring a Spirit
Week to get students and faculty excited about winter sports.
From Nov. 29 to Dec. 3, there will be a plethora
of activities for students to participate in, including open mic
nite and the semi-formal dance, just to name a few.
In addition to day and night events during spirit
week, freebies will be given out as well.
A lot of the students are looking forward to being
active during spirit week to boost school morale.
Sophomore Colin Anderson said he's going to participate
in most of the activities to show his school spirit. Freshman Candice
Young agreed that spirit and unity in a school are important and
will take part in the events, especially pajama day.
Some of the students, such as Juniors Sha'Lace Gregg
and Genessa Tetterton are excited about supporting the winter sports
and being able to have fun at the same time. Other students aren't
so energized.
Senior Kaleena McClendon says that she's here for
the books, not the spirit; it's just like any other week to her.
Junior Kentaya Rozier said that even though it's a good idea - if
students don't participate it would flop.
With all the student body’s mixed emotions
circling spirit week, it's probably best to end on a good note.
"If people get involved, it's great,"
Senior Andrea Cooper said. "School unity is the best way to
show spirit."
Upcoming events leading up to the UNCP men’s
basketball team versus Johnson and Wales University Dec. 4 at 4
p.m. will be:
Dec. 2: Day; Wacky Tacky Clothes. Night; Semi-Formal
Dance from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the UC.
