Students speak out on campus changes

By Nikki Johnson
Staff Writer

We’ve all seen the massive changes taking place on campus, from the reopening of the former mold infested Dial building, the $17.4 million renovation of the Oxendine Science building, to the total revamping of the $8.4 million Jones Athletic Center.

While some changes aren’t so big, like the old sidewalks being replaced with red brick-like ones, the construction on campus affects students, faculty and staff in different ways.

It’s hard to see past mounds of dirt and half-finished construction and visualize the finished product of a beautiful campus for a lot of the students and faculty at UNCP.

Senior Kris Kerson said that all of the changes on campus are definitely making the school look more modern and improved, which in turn will hopefully bring more people to UNCP.

Some students are not too bothered by the changes while others say the construction gets in the way of getting to class and makes the campus look messy.

Sophomore Edmundo Zamorano said that he hopes for the changes to finish quickly so that the campus will be nice and clean.

Seniors Carrie Pierce and Rose-Anna McClintock say that they are ready for the construction to be completed and out of the way.

As for the Dial building, students seem pleased that they don’t have to worry about the mold problem anymore.

“As long as it’s fungus free, it’s better,” Junior Kevin Whitaker said.

For years to come, changes will continue to take place at UNCP and students will be able to see the campus improve right in front of their eyes.
