Local UNCP student, Jenny Bruns, junior mass communications major, gives back to her community with a snip of the scissors while helping keep money in so many people’s pocket.
Bruns is the coupon coordinator at Fort Bragg military base in Fayetteville. With the help of her 13-year-old son, Drake, Bruns collects coupons and organizes them into two boxes, one box at the Army Community Service and the other at Army Emergency Relief.
“Lately, though, there have been so many coupons that we’ve had to work during the week to keep up. When the coupons expire, we package them and send them to different ACS offices around the world because the soldiers and their families can use manufacturer’s coupons up to six months past their expiration date,” Bruns said.
Bruns has also had success with the coupon drive here at UNCP after setting up a coupon donation box in the U.C.
“The coupon drive at UNCP has really picked up steam. I wish I could personally thank everyone who has donated their leftover coupons. Since there are so many, Drake and I have decided to set up and maintain a coupon box at UNCP in the U.C.’s Commuter Lounge,” Bruns said.
Bruns said that she strongly believes in the value of community service.
“This job has the flexibility I need while going to school full time, and more important, it is possible to work with my son. It’s important for me to be a good role model for my son so that he’ll become a valuable member of society; he already is,” Bruns said. |
