Digital art displayed in UNCP gallery

The art deparment hosted a digital art show on Oct. 5.

Copies of various artists' work from the 2002-2003 International Digital Arts Awards were on display.

Students, faculty and staff enjoyed refreshments in a well-lit environment while observing the work of 16 artists. One of the artists was Yam Mich, first place winner of the Laurence Cartel Award for Excellence, in 2002.

There were two other awards and honorable mentions on display.

David Ho, Cathryn Chase, Sherman Houigan, Victor Koen, Kazuhisa Nagato, Charles Carver, Christopher Barraby, Alessandra Bavori, Tina Zimmerman, Eric Carol, Niklas Sinclair, Walter Spaeth, Bob Neudza, Christopher Donavas were also included in the show.

Digital art is an evolving art form. It combines subjects like science, mathematics and philosophy to create new meanings, according to International Digital Arts Awards Founder and Director Steve Danzig's Website.

"Digital art is an interdisciplinary work," Danzig stated.

There were no official winners for the 2005 International Digital Arts Awards. Instead sponsor awards were presented individually.

The art department will be hosting two new shows from Nov. 6-9.

he senior show for December graduates will be shown along with the Juried Exhibition of Student Work, where art students will be competing against one another.
