North Carolina hosts ‘Jeopardy’ game show

For the first time in history, the nationally known television show “Jeopardy,” will be heading to North Carolina.

The RBC center at North Carolina State University in Raleigh will host the show, Oct. 1 and 2. The championship will feature 15 college students from some of the most prestigious colleges around the nation.

The show will air on Nov. 7 and continue through Nov.18, on ABC11 at 7 p.m.

The 2005 college championship winner will receive $100,000 cash prize and a special trophy. The second contestant receives a minimum $50,000; third prize will be a minimum of $25,000.

Executive Producer Harry Friedman said that “Jeopardy” and ABC11 have been working for years to make this an event.

ABC11 President and General Manager Bernie Prazenica said, “It is a tremendous opportunity to showcase to millions of viewers around the world our exceptional colleges and universities, as well as our wonderful communities, friends, and neighbors that makes this a special place to live.”

“Jeopardy” was created in 1964 in the dining room of Merv Griffin’s apartment.

In 1984, “Jeopardy” was ranked first in Nielsen ratings for the genre for over 1,000 weeks, and is the No. 2 series in syndication for 71 consecutive ratings sweeps periods with more than an estimated of 12 million viewers daily.

“Jeopardy” has also won 25 Daytime Emmy awards, which is more than any game show has ever received.

The question that everyone is dying to ask is, “How do they come up with all those questions?”
