Greek festival draws students

Gyros, Baklava and jewelry are just a few of the many Greek traditions that visited Fayetteville Sept. 9-11, for the 15 Annual Greek Festival.

The festival was located downtown Fayetteville at the Hellenic Center located in Haymount.

Raffle tickets were sold for a chance to win two round trip tickets to Athens, Greece, or a 27” color television.

The festival hosted Greek school dancers and a Hellenic dance troupe. The majority of the people spent their time outside enjoying traditional Greek meals.

Food prices ranged from $1 for Greek fries to $9 for a lamb dinner with rice.

Greek desserts were also available to compliment the meals.

A tour of the small Greek Orthodox Church was offered about half way through the day. The small church was beautifully decorated with vibrant, colorful murals on the walls.

Colors reflected from the stain glass windows danced across the floors of the church.

“It looks like something out of a movie. Everyone should see this,” said Jessica Arce, a local visiting the festival for the first time.
