‘Young
LI’- Lionel Capers
By Rachel Hernandez
Guest Writer
Lionel Capers
is sick of hearing that there is nothing fun to do on campus.
Perhaps it
is his study of public relations that prompted him to do something
about it. With a little help from his friends, Capers, 21, a junior
at UNCP, has produced and promoted, “The Real or the Real
Stupid,” a hip-hop/rap mix tape with vocals from 15 different
students.
“I am
just trying to get people out there, and I wanted to give them a
creative outlet,” Capers said.
Capers said
the students on the mix tapes commonly write lyrics about their
lives. He said he has gained an invaluable experience by learning
about the lives of so many diverse people.
“Everybody
doesn’t live the same life as you and everybody doesn’t
rap the same,” Capers said.
Capers is currently
working on the release of a new album, “Look What You Can
Do.”
He is encouraging
students to join him at the release party on Nov. 4 at 10 p.m. at
Pine Hall Lounge.
“We are
always looking for new talent on campus,” Capers said with
a grin.
