CAB unveils
fall semester entertainment lineup
By Daniel Armstrong
Staff Writer
The CAB’s
lineup for the 2003 fall semester promises to be one fun-packed
event after another.
With more movies, guests, and events than you can shake a stick
at, there is definitely something that everyone can find entertaining.
Some of the
semester highlights include the Coffeehouse music series and Open
Mic Nite. The Coffeehouse series will show a new acoustic artist
performing in the UC lounge each month.
Scheduled guests
include Rodie Ray and Kenny Shore, two accomplished musicians.
Open Mic Nite
is a chance for the students of UNCP to say what’s on their
minds through songs, poetry, and other forms of expression.
For the month
of October, prepare to be amazed, freaked out, or both as Alain
Nu and Brian Brushwood, two expert magicians, hit UNCP. Nu specializes
in mental powers, while Brushwood specializes in bizarre magic.
CAB shows movies
twice a week, Friday and Wednesday, either in the Moore Hall Auditorium,
or the Pine Hall Multipurpose Room. Previous movies shown have included
“The Matrix Reloaded,” “X-Men 2,” “A
Man Apart,” “Bringing Down the House” and “Bruce
Almighty.”
Most movies
shown haven’t been released on VHS/DVD, so this is the chance
to see it for free. Upcoming movies include “Identity”
and “Boat Trip.”
The Distinguished
Speaker series features inspirational people with stories and life
lessons to motivate others. Future speakers include Spike Lee, Dave
Barry and Billy Mills.
The Nostalgia
Concert Series stars many popular artists from the 50s, 60s, and
70s, such as Dionne Warwick, The Oak Ridge Boys and the Four Tops.
They will be performing many fan favorites for the audience.
Director of
Programming for CAB James Bass said “We’re trying to
do new things this year.” He also commented that the CAB tries
to show entertaining programs all the time.
If you need more information, please call 521-6482, or check out
a CAB meeting, which are Mondays at 4:00 in Room 251 of the UC.
