Homecoming 2004
is knocking at our door. Homecoming is a week filled with entertainment
to help students and alumni celebrate and enjoy being part of UNCP.
“Traditionally,
the Homecoming Dance on Friday and the Comedy Show on Saturday are
two of the biggest events. We expect several hundred people for
the dance, and a sell out for the Bruce Bruce show- that could draw
as many as 1,600 people,” said James Bass, assistant director
of Student Activities. “I know that our attendance for Homecoming
events rises every year, and that tells me that students are enjoying
the events that are taking place.”
The week kicks
off Monday, Feb. 16 with events put together and sponsored by CAB
and SGA.
Some of these
exciting events will include the Hall Spirit competition for all
dorms, including the Village apartments, to participate in showing
their creative school spirit.
Also on Monday,
there will be various tournaments in the game room and the annual
faculty/staff vs.students basketball game at 7 p.m. in the Jones
athletic center.
The homecoming
parade is on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and the pep rally is in the gym
at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, Feb.
20 at 8 p.m. the Nostalgia Concert Series will present the soothing
sounds of The Four Tops. The Homecoming semiformal dance, also on
Friday, will be held in the UC. It begins at 9 p.m. and lasts until
1 a.m.
The big event
will be Saturday, Feb. 21 when the men and women’s basketball
teams host Kennesaw State. The Homecoming King and Queen for 2004
will be crowned at halftime.
Ending Homecoming
2004 with lots of laughs will be comedian Bruce Bruce, performing
Saturday night in GPAC at 8 p.m.
With all this
fun, let us all remember to stay safe and responsible.
