The magical
world of Dr. Seuss comes to GPAC Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. with
“Seussical, The Musical.”
“Seussical,
The Musical” brings the world of Dr. Seuss to life as a Broadway
musical. It is a contemporary weaving together of his most famous
stories and characters in creative and thought-provoking ways, as
you have never seen them before.
The Tony Award-winning
team of Lynn Abrens and Stephen Flahery brings Dr. Seuss’s
magical world to life in this witty and whimsical family show, “Seussical,
The Musical.”
“This
is a show that all ages, young and old, will appreciate,”
said Stafford Arima, the director of the production. “Children
will enjoy Seussical for its energy and seeing the Dr. Seuss characters
they are familiar with.”
Dr. Seuss was
one of the most honored and cherished writers of all time. With
over 50 books written, and over 100 million books sold, he received
the Pulitzer Prize for literature, three Academy Awards, two Peabody
Awards and two Emmy Awards in his lifetime.
The best-loved
characters from the most famous cherished Dr. Seuss books meet up
in the mysterious Jungle of Nool, and it will take the mischievous
Cat In The Hat, along with the gentle Horton The Elephant, the shy
Gertrude McFuzz, the brash Mayzie LaBird and a gaggle of loveable
Seuss characters to bring harmony to this chaotic land.
“The older
audience members will remember the smiles his books brought to their
children, and now their grandchildren, and perhaps even their great-grandchildren,”
Arima said.
The Grammy-nominated
score includes pop, gospel, blues and R&B, with musical numbers
such as “Oh, The Things You Can Think,” “Alone
In The Universe,” “How Lucky You Are” and “It’s
Possible.”
Tickets for
the 10 a.m. performance are $12 for adults and $10 for students;
and for the 7 p.m. performance are $28-$30 for adults and $10 for
children and UNCP students.
