Music students advance to regionals
Five students in the Department of Music advanced to the regional competition after scoring high in the N.C. National Association of Teachers of Singing competition on Feb. 18 at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
The regional competition includes students from multiple states.
Leigh Montague, mezzosoprano, placed First in the college women's (junior year) category and was asked to perform again at the winner's recital.
Arthur Gilliam, bass, placed Third in the college men's (sophomore) category.
Jordan Lowery, tenor, placed Fourth in the college men's (sophomore) category.
Also, Musical Theatre students Thomas McCoy and Nicci Cherico advanced to the regional competition.
Dr. Timothy Altman, chair of Music, announced the winners in an email to the campus where he also thanked Tracy Thomas for working with the two musical theatre students and Jaeyoon Kim for working with the classical voice students as well as Dr. Cheryl Lindquist who played piano for them.
"This was a great day for our students and our university, " Dr. Altman said.
