Scattered showers did
not threaten to end the festivities
taking place at the
seventh annual Chevy to
the Levee on Oct. 24.
Runners, vendors and
families still came to participate
in the community
event held at Luther Britt
Park in Lumberton.
Hosts
Chevy to the Levee is
a community event hosted
by The Robeson Road
Runners and sponsored by
Jerry Johnson Chevrolet
of Lumberton.
This year included the
first sprinting in heels
stiletto run in addition to
the annual family fun mile
and 5K trail race.
Arts and crafts booths
set up along the trail
allowed families and children
to make clay pottery,
rubber band guitars and
learn weaving on a loom.
Famous faces
The festivities also
included live music by the
Bryan Lee and Blues
Power Band, hay rides, a
climbing wall, canoes and
paddle boats. A children’s
area was set up with an
inflatable slide and jungle
gym.
U.S. Rep. Mike
McIntyre (D-NC 7th
Congressional District)
stopped by to greet supporters
and community
members.
UNCP involvement
UNCP’s softball team
volunteered to monitor
children on the inflatable
playground equipment.
This was their second year
volunteering at Chevy to
the Levee.
“We always like to be
involved in community
events,” said Assistant
Coach Adrian Tuttle.
“This is a good team
activity that allows us to
give back to the community.”
Charity
The proceeds raised at
Chevy to the Levee will
go toward the Robeson
County Community
Foundation. According to
Debbie Thompson, the
treasurer of Robeson
Road Runners, there were
225 registered racers in
the 5K trail race and about
600 people participated in
the family fun mile.
