Freshmen can win makeover for dorm room

Photo by Tashieka Hammond Freshmen students have the opportunity to win a room makeover in an intercollegiate competition. GoalQuest gives students a chance to express their creativity through videos, songs and short stories.

For the second year, freshmen students will have the opportunity to compete in an intercollegiate competition for an ultimate room make-over. Sponsored by GoalQuest, a company geared towards increasing student activity on campus, the contest offers students the opportunity to express their creativity through videos, songs or short stories.

Through their entries, students should demonstrate their need for a room makeover in the most original way possible, while at the same time entertaining viewers and judges.

Once the contest launches on Feb. 4, freshmen will have one month to create and submit their entries onto BraveWire, the on-line site locatable from UNCP’s homepage.

Once the submission period has ended, students will have two weeks to view all entries submitted on-line and to vote once a day for their favorite submission in each category. After voting ends, judges will select their favorite entries among the top 10 submissions in each category.

There are four prizes given for each category: the grand prize, runner up, second runner up and most popular.

The grand prize winner will take home the following prizes: $1,000 towards furniture, $500 towards wardrobe, a flat screen TV, a MacBook computer, a PS3, an iPod touch screen and more. The runner up will receive a flat screen TV.

The second runner up will receive an iPod touch screen and most popular will receive a Nintendo DS.

In order for freshmen to submit entries, they must have access to a computer and have a BraveWire account. Accounts should have been set up during orientation or through freshmen seminar classes.

If not, students can go to the Center for Academic Excellence in Jacobs Hall to create one.

BraveWire was introduced on campus a year and a half ago as part of a campaign to engage freshmen students in college life and assist with any transitional problems. The on-line site allows freshmen students to network with one another through personal profiles and open discussion pages.

BraveWire encourages students to stay active on campus through various contests each semester.

UFind It, an on-line scavenger hunt, gave a student the opportunity last semester to answer questions ranging from sports, arts and entertainment and UNC Pembroke trivia, for a prize of $300.
