Scotland heritage part of Red Springs food, music and games festival By Lauren AllenAround The Town Editor The Flora McDonald Highland Games and the Celtic Music Festival is set to take place Oct. 6 and 7 in Red Springs on the campus of Flora McDonald Academy. The event begins Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. with a $25 buffet dinner in the dining hall of Flora McDonald Academy. The music begins at 8 p.m. with musical guests including Alex Beaton, The MacTalla Mor (Gaelic for Great Echo), Dave Wiesler and Mara Shea. Tickets for the music festival are $10. However, one ticket will be sold for both dinner and the festival for only $30. Beginning at 9 a.m. on Oct. 7, kilt-clad contestants will demonstrate their skills in Scottish dances including the Highland Fling and the Sword Dance. Athletic events native to Scotland will begin in the afternoon. A sheep dog demonstration will also take place. Adult tickets purchased in advance are $8 and $10 at the gate. Youth tickets for 6 to 18 years of age are $5 in advance and $6 at the gate. Children under 6 are admitted free of charge. |
