Car festival draws a crowd By Kelly Freeman
“This born to cruise festival is all due to the love of my life, in tribute to cruisin’, we loved to cruise; and in memory of our 36 years together,” Freeman said. His daughters, Amy, Beth and Caroline, accompanied him on the cruise along with 100 other cars. A special tribute to Vicki and awards were presented after the parade. The theme of the festival was Mayberry, featuring characters including Aunt Bee, Goober Dyle, Ernest T. Bass and Howard Sprague. The characters put on a skit and the Mayberry Deputy, David Browning, issued “citations” inside the mall. The parade was escorted by Lumberton Sheriff Kenneth Sealey, who was followed by Mayor Ray Pennington. “This is a great event. It brings the citizens together to honor Joe and his wife,” Sealey said. It will be a yearly event. |
