Greek event gives glimpse of culture

Saints  Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church held its 16th annual Greek Festival Sept. 8 to 10 in Fayetteville.

The fest included activities for all ages: cooking classes, wine tasting, church tours, an inflatable moonwalk  and miniature train rides.

Greek Fest attendees had a chance to sample a wide variety of native Greek dishes including Greek lasagna, pizza, souvlaki, gyros, dolmadakia and Greek fries.

Dessert dishes included honey puffs and baklava. 

The Fayetteville Fire Department and K-9 Police Department were also on hand to educate the public about their professions.

The Fayetteville K-9 unit allowed children to play with two of its trained Belgian Malinois dogs. 

The Zephyros Band and Greek dance troupes provided the public with the music and dance portion of the festival.

Multiple vendors sold everything from paintings and jewelry to Russian nesting dolls and Byzantine icons.

Portions of the event’s proceeds will go to the American Red Cross, American Autism Society and the church itself.
