Pembroke Wal-Mart no longer 24 hours By Greg LaroseStaff Writer On Aug. 14, Wal-Mart of Pembroke changed its hours from 24 hours to 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. According to Mike Miller, assistant manager at Wal-Mart, the change was due to economical reasons and lack of business during late night hours. Miller said that Wal-Mart’s regular business has not been affected and that customers seem to be adjusting well. However, some customers have requested that Wal-Mart open at 6 a.m., one hour earlier. Miller said Wal-Mart is considering this request. “I liked Wal-Mart being open 24-hours. It was always accessible,” said Jeff William, a sophomore at UNCP. “Now that the hours have changed it’s going to be harder for college kids, who stay up late, to run out there and get what they need.” Wal-Mart has been a part of Pembroke since Sept. 26, 2005. According to Miller, Wal-Mart enjoys interacting with the community through donations and city grants and feels it important to let the community know that Wal-Mart really does care about their customers. On the grand opening of Wal-Mart, officials gave away $14,000 in grants tothe Pembroke Police Department, the Pembroke Fire Department and other public organizations in the community. |
