Local author publishes fourth book By Kelly FreemanAround the Town Editor Lisa Huggins Oxendine brings a lighthearted insight to breast cancer victims and survivors by counseling them to hand God their worries in her newest book, “The Pink Begonia Sister’s Caribbean Retreat.”
Her novel is based on a biblical sense and a fictional approach to Jeremiah 29:11. Jeremiah 29:11 pledges, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” “Strength is not a weakness when it comes to women,” Oxendine said. “We all have a voice inside us, sounds of voices who taught us how to be men and women.” Oxendine tries to incorporate romance into her novels. “I’ve come to see that I am involved in one of the greatest romances in the century,” she said. She paints on the side when she isn’t writing. She thinks of herself as a writer that paints, and not as an artist. One may disagree once they see her paintings. Oxendine also has written and published three other books entitled: God’s Breath, Writing to God While Quitting Tobacco, and Christian Fitness: An Approach to Mind, Body and Spirit. Her books are available at the UNCP-Bookstore. |
