Bid-off raises money for AIDS awareness

            The UNCP chapter of Keep a Child Alive (KCA) raised $678 in their bid-off fundraiser Sept. 13.              All the money raised went directly to the KCA foundation, which is an organization that builds awareness and helps provide treatment to children and women in Africa living with AIDS.
            Hosts Jesse Dobbins and Shelby Hughes introduced 24 UNCP students to a crowd full of eager bidders of the night. The bidding started at $5 and went all the way to $100.
            The audience got an extra treat for attending when there was a special guest appearance by the Dem Heizman Boys.
            Robbie Redic and Parris Dottery  were auctioned off together and went for $100, the highest bid of the night.
             Keep a Child Alive was founded at UNCP in September 2006. 
            In the past 14 years, 25 million people have died of AIDS and 13 million in Africa alone.              Senior and fundraising chair of KCA Darcel Walker, said that the organization provides an opportunity for students to learn more about what the victims go through and  have an opportunity to provide support for AIDS casualties.
            “Although AIDS in Africa may not directly affect most UNCP students, the organization gives students a chance to put themselves in the shoes of the victims and contribute to providing medicine for the victims,” said Walker  
            Keep a Child Alive believes that AIDS is preventable, treatable and stoppable.
