Plans are in the works for a new caution light to be constructed between McDonalds and the Huddle House.
Neil Hawk, vice chancellor of Business Affairs, hopes for the construction by the Department of Transportation to begin in mid-spring and to be completed by the end of the school year.
The entrance to the university on Highway 711 was closed at the beginning of the fall 2007 semester.
“Safety is my number one concern,” said Dr. Diane Jones, vice chancellor of Student Affairs. “I believe that closing it was a good thing to do.”
The Department of Transportation is in the design phase for the area.
Plans for the area include the new caution light and construction on Odum Road, which runs adjacent to the school.
The plan is to have the students enter and exit through the parking lot using the new caution light, that will form the shape of a “T.”
After the construction is complete, the area beautification project will begin.
“Soon we will have the entrance looking as beautiful as the rest of the campus,” Dr. Jones said. |
