Robert Cooper thinks outside the box By Margaret DamghaniSenior Staff Writer Robert N. “Coop” Cooper is beginning his second year at UNCP as the new Director of Student Life.
“We want to think outside of the box and offer new and different programs,” Cooper says. “I want students to have the best experience they can get from a university.” Student can often find Cooper in the UC or participating in the many different students activities around campus. “He seeks student input,” Dr. Diane O. Jones, vice chancellor for student affairs, says. “We want to build a sense of community with our students so that they have a home away from home,” Jones says. Weekend activities will be emphasized and next year football will provide more opportunities for diverse activities. “I want to see more cultural clubs and more cultural events,” Cooper says. The Office of Student Life works with the Center for Leadership and Service (formerly LSOP), the Association of Campus Entertainment (formerly CAB) and Office of Multicultural and Minority Affairs (OMMA) to provide students with things to do. “Oh, I’m excited. It’s a great time to be at UNCP,” Cooper says. |
