APPLE Corps brings Thinkfast to Pembroke By Jessica MelletStaff Writer APPLE Corps hosted its first Thinkfast Tournament of the semester Jan. 20 in the UC lounge and gave away $850 to UNCP students.
Nicolas Aldridge came in 2nd place winning $200, 3rd was Zach Rowell with $100 and Matthew Shoffner came in 4th with $50. This tournament was the first of five that will take place this semester. This tournament was based around pop culture questions. Future tournaments will have various themes such as questions geared towards alcohol, drug policies and history. Prize money is given in the form of a VISA gift card to each winner. UNCP received a grant which allowed them to host the tournaments on the weekends, said Danielle Williams, APPLE Corps president. “I can learn something and win money,” Gordon said. There will be four more preliminary games on Feb. 10, Feb. 24, March 24 and March 31. The championship game will be April 21 and the four winners of each round will earn a spot in the finals and a chance to win $1,250.
