Luau sets stage for Spring Break By Sha’Lace Gregg LSOP hosted a Spring Break Luau March 1 in the University lounge. The event was set up to recruit more members to LSOP, as well as to allow current members to turn in their community service hours. "It was a wonderful feeling to see so many people come and turn in LSOP hours. Just seeing how many people gave back to the community was a great feeling. I'm glad the LSOP rewarded those who have volunteered thus far, with games, food, and fun," coordinator Angela Harding said.
The lounge was decorated with flying tropical birds and hanging palm trees. Light island music played in the background to support the luau theme. The event was open to all students and faculty to come and enjoy food, games and mingle with others before spring break. Chicken wings, hoagie sandwiches, cake and punch were some of the many items available to everyone who attended. Students were also given flower leis and luau cups. The event included karaoke and various island- inspired games such as island glass Jenga and memory games. "There were a lot of games that reminded me of ones I played as a child; the ball toss, musical mats and the limbo. In all I think it was a success and it was a lot of fun," Ransom Walter said. LSOP has educational workshops and community service projects to help students seek out their own leadership potential and take the initiative to develop it. "Even though I am new to this, LSOP is great. It really gives me a chance to tap into great leadership opportunities," Tiffany Downing said. LSOP hosts several workshops and events throughout the year that are open to any students who wish to join the organization. |
