UNCP honors Coretta Scott King By Alan Chase
The ceremony began outside the University Center with a candlelight vigil and prayer. Attendees then marched to Moore Hall for a brief presentation. The Moore Hall presentation included a short video and slide show about King and her fight for equality, two guest speakers and a performance from The Voices of Serenity Gospel Choir. According to attendee Joshua Matthews, the tribute "symbolizes what the blacks went through and how important her work was to the black community and how it lives on." Coretta Scott King passed away on Jan. 31, 2006. The UNCP chapter of the NAACP sponsored the event. |
