Spirits soar at pep rally By David McGee UNCP students showed high spirits Feb.2 during the parade and pep rally. During the parade, many of the organizations showed their support of the University by decorating themselves, as well as floats. The parade was taken through downtown and ended at the Jones Center. A panel of judges voted that Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity showed the most school spirit and were best decorated. Both organizations took first place. Second place went to the Native American Student Organization and Hok Nosai Council. Third place went to Theta Xi Fraternity. "I think that it is a great way to get the students involved in campus life, and it shows when you have a great turnout like this," Henry Martin of Theta Xi fraternity said. Following the Homecoming Parade was the Pep Rally for the homecoming basketball game against North Georgia College and State. The pep-rally drew a large crowd of UNCP students and members of the community as well. The UNCP dance team performed for the audience, Student Government Association gave out beads to complement the Mardi gras theme of this year, but a crowd favorite was the Slam Dunk Contest. |
