Students bid for homecoming companionship By Nicole Lord
UNCP organizations participated in the bid-off, each offering two members to represent the whole organization. Individual UNCP students, those not part of any organization, also participated in the bid-off. Twenty-one contestants were in the bid-off. All bids started at $5 and the highest bid went to Dwan Hayes, a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Inc. The president of AASO, Toneysha Amos, started the evening with trivia questions for the audience, awarding the winner with various prizes. "When was our lovely campus of UNCP founded?" was one of the questions Amos asked. The prize was a Braves towel with the homecoming theme printed on it. The emcee for the night was Erin Berry, a member of SGA. Berry acted as the auctioneer, occasionally struggling to hear bids over the excited audience. The bid-off contestants started with a walk down the aisle offering bidders the opportunity to see what they could bid on. Then, each one took the stage individually, and the bidding started. The audience immediately began a friendly competition with one another, yelling out prices, trying to be the highest bidder. All participants that were bid on were required to spend one to two hours with their bidder at one of the homecoming events. |
