New median installed at Prospect Road

At his Town Hall meeting on Aug. 28, Chancellor Allen C. Meadors stated that the new median was a good addition and that he wished that there were more along Prospect Road.

“We don’t do [road medians], the department of transportation does them,” he said.

The Chancellor explained that the North Carolina Department of Transportation has a budget, with a quue of projects waiting to be completed.

“It seems like they could complete everything in the general area at once, but there may be another location in line ahead of you,” he said, adding that, hopefully, they would have more within the next year or two. NCDOT representative and Vice Chair of the Department of Transportation’s Audit and Contract committee Mac Campbell said the department had many meetings with the University to determine the placement of the crosswalk.

In order to have additional medians, there would first have to be sidewalks on both sides of Prospect Road that meet ADA requirements, or the accessibility guidelines for buildings and facilities.

“That would be either the University’s or the Town of Pembroke’s responsibility,” he said.

While the numbers have not been finalized, NCDOT said that the allocated funding for the project was $25,000.
