Pembroke Magazine number 9 (1977) is a special
three-part supplementary issue called The Distance: New & Selected Poems
(1928-1977) by Macleod. The first part, "The Ptarmigans (1928-1940),"
concerns Macleod's roots in the Southwest as well as his sojourn in the Soviet
Union and New York City. The second, "The Dark Descent Within (1941-1952),"
takes Macleod through Briarcliff Quarterly and his travels throughout
the United States. The last section, "Long Distance Messages (1953-1977),"
brings Macleod through his editorship of Pembroke Magazine.
