summer Freshman orientation

Dear Student:

Congratulations on your acceptance to The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. We are excited that you have selected UNC Pembroke to continue your education, and we look forward to your arrival on campus.

Your first step toward success at UNCP will begin this summer with testing and will continue with the Experiencing a "Brave" New World Program on August 18-19. All freshman students are required to attend one testing session and Experiencing a "Brave" New World Program. Six testing sessions will be offered this summer. Each of these sessions represents a full day of activity (7:30am - 5:00pm). Placement tests will determine the courses in which you will enroll for the 2008 Fall Semester. The math placement test allows for the use of any type of personal handheld calculator. However, the University does not provide these calculators. The following are this summer's testing and registration dates:

FRESHMAN TESTING SESSIONS
Session I, Saturday, May 17, 2008 - CLOSED
Session II, Tuesday, June 17, 2008 - CLOSED
Session III, Tuesday, July 8, 2008 - CLOSED
Session IV, Thursday, July 17, 2008 - CLOSED
Session V, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - CLOSED
Session VI, Saturday-Monday, August 16-18, 2008

Each testing session will be limited to the first 200 students to register; therefore, please indicate on the enclosed reservation card, in order of preference, your choices (i.e., 1,2,3,4,5,6). Although the final testing session is designed with residential students in mind, especially those who must travel great distances, students are urged to attend a testing session as early as possible to have the broadest selection of available classes. Students registering for classes on August 18, 2008 must pay all costs by 5:00 pm on August 19, 2008. Students registering for ONLY on-line classes need to call Distance Education at 910.521.6367.

NORTH CAROLINA LAW requires all students enrolling in five or more semester hours to submit a copy of their immunization records to their respective institutions. Please submit a copy of your immunization records and the completed medical form (initially included in your UNCP acceptance packet) to the Office of Student Health Services. Return this form by July 1st if you are entering school for the Fall Semester. If you are entering The University of North Carolina at Pembroke for Spring or Summer Sessions, or in the case of late acceptance, you must submit this form within 10 days of your acceptance notification.

If you are a student with a disability and are requesting accommodations for placement testing, please contact Disability Support Services (DSS) at 910.521.6695. Notification of required accommodation must be submitted two (2) weeks prior to the test date. Failure to notify DSS in advance may result in accommodations for that day being denied and a reschedule of testing.

Please complete and return the enclosed registration card along with prepayment of the $60 (non-refundable) fee immediately. (A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.) A schedule of the Experiencing a "Brave" New World Program will be mailed to you during the summer.

In addition, Family Orientation sessions will be scheduled concurrently with the first five testing sessions only. We are excited that you will be joining us at UNC Pembroke, and we look forward to helping you make a great beginning to your collegiate experience. For additional information, please call us at 910.521.6662 or 800.949.UNCP or visit us on the web at www.uncp.edu/orientation/.

Sincerely,

John McMillan
