Safe Zone at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke began in 2009, as a dialogue between Multicultural Affairs, Disability Support Services, Institutional Effectiveness, Student Life and Student Health Services to provide a better community to serve our diverse GLBT student population.
Since that dialogue, 30 dedicated faculty, staff and alumni have been through UNCP's first Safe Zone Education Session. Our Safe Zone now consists of a voluntary network of faculty, staff and students who believe that every member of the university community should have an equal opportunity to grow and learn in a safe and open environment.
Safe Zone educates faculty, staff, and students about issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and questioning individuals (LGBTQ) and their loved ones.
