Faculty

Faculty Department

Moore County Teachers and UNCP Science and Biology Faculty

Moore County Schools and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke formed a partnership to increase the content knowledge and improve the teaching methods of science teachers in Moore County Schools, grades 3-8 .  UNCP was invited in recognition of its strong STEM teaching and research  programs.

For two weeks, beginning June 13th, UNCP's science department faculty will host Moore County teachers with activities to enrich their scientific backgroud.  These activities are keyed to the essential strands that teachers need to cover during the school year. Particular strands were selected based on student assessment results or teacher feedback.  The workshops for elementary teachers are held on Monday through Thursday, during the week of June 13th. Workshop for middle school teachers will be held Monday through Thursday, during the week of June 20th.

The Moore County Schools Growing to Greatness Project is funded by the NC Department of Public Instruction, and is in its second year of a three year funding cycle.  The science and biology faculty of UNCP include: Martin Farley, PhD,  and Daren Nelson, PhD, Geology and Geography Department; Marie Santisban, PhD, Biology Department; and, William Brandon, PhD, and Sally Vallabha, MS, Chemistry and Physics Department.
