Women's golf places fifth in PBC

Led by a top-five finish from junior Laura Bird, the UNCP women’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Peach Belt Conference Golf Championships on April 17-18 in Greenwood, S.C.
Bird carded a 4-over-par 76 in the first round for the Lady Braves and finished the day in a tie for fifth place.
Sophomore Ashlii Thompson closed the round in 10th place after scoring a 6-over-par 78.
Senior Rebecca Mirovich added an 8-over-par 80 and earned a share of 21st place.
Senior Dana Watkins ended the round in 21st, and freshman Amanda Levy went into day two in 31st.
The Black & Gold held on to fifth place in the team standings after the first round.
Montevallo sat 13 strokes ahead of the Lady Braves in first place.
In the second round, Bird shot a 1-over-par 73 to move into third place on the leaderboard.
Watkins shot a 2-over-par 74 for a share of 11th. Thompson finished the round alone in 24th place, while Mirovich and Levy ended in a four-way tie for 27th.
UNCP remained in fifth place after two rounds. Montevallo cushioned their lead atop the leaderboard heading into the final round.
The Lady Braves shot well enough to move into fourth place on the last day, but the round was called off due to inclement weather.
Bird finished the tournament in a tie for third, and Watkins took home a share of 11th.
Individual champion Arin Eddy helped Montevallo win the team championship. UNCP finished in fifth place.
Lander and Flagler rounded the top three. Lander finished their two rounds at 31-over par.
The final round was cancelled due to rain.
Flagler finished 39-over par. Montevallo, the conference winner, finished their two rounds at 26-over par.
