Tennis continues slide with 8-1 loss

UNCP’s Leigh-Anne McAfee captured the only win of the day as the tennis team fell to North Georgia on a final score of 8-1.
This marks the Black and Gold’s fifth straight loss, while North Georgia is flying high on a nine-match winning streak.
Felicia Baratta and Rita Kaldawi bested Kelsey Vanquaethem and Gabriela van Ooststroom at No. 1 singles, 8-2. Vanquaethem and van Ooststroom are 15-14 in doubles matches this season.
On the second court, Morgan Sheehan and McAfee dropped their match to Simone Krog and Natalia Escobar, 8-1.
Sheehan and McAfee have lost both the doubles matches they have competed in together.
On court No. 3 Mathilde Baartvedt and Nela Handac defeated Monica Espitia and Hannah Ammons, 8-1.
Espitia and Ammons have only played in two doubles matches together this season, losing both.
McAfee got the Lady Braves on the board after outlasting Baratta at court No. 1, 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (7). The win moves McAfee to an even 14-14 in singles competition in the season.
The Nighthawks got its first point of the day in singles competition from Escobar at the second court, as she finished off Vanquaethem, 7-5, 6-1. Vanquaethem is now 7-18 on the year in singles play.
Kaldawi captured a 6-4, 6-1 win over van Ooststroom at No. 3 singles and Baartvedt got a victory over Espitia at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-4. The loss puts van Ooststroom at just under .500 for the year in singles action (12-13). Espitia falls to 9-14 in singles play for the year.
Hannah Standord swept Sheehan for a 6-0, 6-0 victory at court No. 5 and Krog finished the day with a sweep over Ammons, 6-0, 6-0.
Sheehan is now 11-16 in singles play for the year and Ammons is 0-4 for the Black and Gold.
