The UNCP women’s basketball team lost 62-60 on Nov. 25 against Livingstone inside of the Jones Center.
Livingstone didn’t score their first point until over six minutes had passed and were held to just eight field goals in the first half.
Despite shooting just 22 percent in the half, Livingstone was only down by four going into the second half.
“They are a really good team and I thought we did a great job defensively and they didn’t shoot the ball very well in the first half,” said UNCP Head Coach John Haskins.
Cierra York scored nine of Livingstone’s 24 points in the first half and brought down five rebounds as well.
The Black and Gold started the second half off with a 14-2 run.
This gave them a 42-26 lead.
Avae Hardy had five points during that stretch of play.
Livingstone wasted no time in clawing away at the lead, however, and they scored the next 10 points to bring the lead down to six.
York started the run off with a three-pointer.
Livingstone eventually took the lead on a three-pointer by Amber Curtis with just under five minutes left to play.
UNCP had led the whole game until this point.
Precious Roberts hit a three-pointer with a little over a minute left to give Livingstone a four-point lead.
Katelyn Mitchell countered with a three of her own on the next possession, but the Lady Braves couldn’t quite make a last minute comeback as York made a free-throw to bring the game to its final score.
Roberts came up huge for Livingstone in the second half.
She had 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including hitting all three of her attempts from beyond the arc.
Coach Haskins said the team’s turnovers and lack of aggression on offense are what hurt them in the second half.
The team had 10 turnovers in the second half.
Roberts led all scorers with 20 points in the game for Livingstone.
Haney had a game-high 12 rebounds for UNCP.
Jazmine Kemp had 10 points, four assists and seven rebounds in the losing effort.
