With a 3-0 victory, the Lady Braves broke Lander’s undefeated record at the match-up on Oct.8 at the Jeff May Complex in Greewoon, S.C.
Positive result represents the fifth victory for the Black and Gold in the last seven games and the fourth victory in conference action.
"It is safe to say the most complete game that we have played so far this season," head coach Lars Andersson said. "I thought that we were solid all the way through from our goalkeeper to our forwards.”
Before this defeat, the Lady Bearcats were in the 5th spot in the Southeast regional poll that the National Soccer Coaches Association of America organizes every week.
Current conference player of the week, Courtney Crump, opened the night at the 12th minute by scoring her first collegiate game-winning goal.
In the second half of the contest, freshman Katie Watkins secured the victory by successfully executing a corner kick from sophomore Savanna Stiles.
Towards the end of the game, minute 87th, sophomore Lovisa Gustafsson completed her first goal of the season out of an assist from junior Rae-Shawna Campbell.
Supported by a solid defense that only gave up five shots, the junior goalkeeper finished her third clean game of the season.
"I am incredibly proud of our team. They did everything that we asked for in the pregame speech, and they carried out the game plan 100 percent,” Andersson said. “I couldn't be more pleased. It was pure joy standing on the sideline watching them play."
Campbell and Amber Watkins led the Black and Gold with two shots on goal each.
The Lady Braves defense played really strong allowing Lander to only get off five shots in the game.
None of those shots was on goal.
Kimberly Kesler was responsible for four of Lander’s five shots.
