After notching two more wins this week, including a 5-2 victory over 12th-ranked Lander University in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) opener, the UNCP men's soccer squad climbed one spot to number four in the national standings.
The new rankings were released on September 21. The ranking is the highest in UNCP history.
The Braves also learned that sophomore Trond Myrland has been named PBC player of the week. This marks the second straight week that a UNCP player has garnered the honor.
UNCP is one of four PBC teams to crack the NCAA Division II top 20. Clayton State, which is slated to take on Pembroke at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, moved up to number 13. Lander dropped to number 23 after falling to the Braves, while USC Upstate found its way back into the poll at number 25.
In addition to the Lander win, the Braves knocked off Coker College earlier in the week by a 3-0 score. Myrland picked up an assist in the contest, and followed it up with a hat trick against the Bearcats on Saturday. The three goals now places him second in the conference in points and goals scored.
This is the first time that Myrland has received player of the week honors. He was preceded last week by teammate Sasha Gorres.
The UNCP men's soccer team will play Methodist College at home on Thursday September 23 at 7 p.m.
