First Bank, which is North Carolina’s 6th largest bank, contributed $50,000 towards the multi-purpose facility which will be ready for UNCP’s second football season.
The addition to the stadium will also house the Paul and Pat Willoughby Press Box and the Carolina Professional Mental Health Association Concessions.
First Bank, with more than 70 branches, including offices in Pembroke, Lumberton, Fairmont and Maxton, was an early contributor to the University’s First and Ten Campaign for Football and Athletic Excellence. Chancellor Allen C. Meadors thanked the Troy, N.C., based bank.
“We believe that football is the right thing to do for this University and this community,” Chancellor Meadors said. “We couldn’t do it without good people like First Bank.
“We’re excited about the future of this community with businesses like First Bank leading the way,” he said. “A year from now this site will be home to a facility that will hold concessions and media.”
Anna Hollers, First Bank’s chief operating officer, was on hand for the unveiling of a sign marking the location of the new facility and its sponsors.
“First Bank’s mission is to nurture and support our communities with our resources,” Hollers said. “We wish the coaches and team the best of luck tomorrow.”
Athletic Director Dan Kenney said it has taken many individuals and businesses to step up to make the dream of football come to Pembroke.
“Two years ago all we had was a dream, a vision of what this stadium would look like,” Kenney said. “We needed people like those at First Bank to make our dream become a reality.
“Your gift is transforming this campus in many ways,” he said “Our students, alumni and community are energized.”
