Dr. William Gash, associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, was named interim provost and vice chancellor on April 5.
Chancellor Charles Jenkins made the announcement and said the search for a full-time chief academic officer will follow.
“We are indeed fortunate to have someone with the background and experience of Dr. Bill Gash, associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, willing to accept the responsibilities and duties of provost and vice chancellor on an interim basis,” Chancellor Jenkins said. “Therefore, it is a privilege to appoint Dr. Gash to the interim position, effective immediately.”
Dr. Gash has served in the Office of Academic Affairs for 18 years. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Business Administration degree from Western Carolina University, a Master’s of Music Education degree from Florida State University, a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree from Maryville College and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
Dr. Gash said, “I’m honored to serve as Interim Provost and look forward to working with faculty, students and staff during this time.”
Chancellor Jenkins thanked Dr. Gash for stepping into the position. Dr. Charles Harrington, former provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, stepped down March 29.
“We look forward to Dr. Gash’s leadership and service in this important role,” Chancellor Jenkins continued. “Please join me in thanking him for his willingness to step forward in the best interests of the University.”
