UNCP’s first film festival was a student affair

UNC Pembroke’s students proved once again their resourcefulness in organizing the first Lumbee River Independent Film Festival that was held April 11 at the Regional Center.

It was the first film festival in UNCP history, and it featured expertly designed tickets, program, promotions and t-shirts. There was popcorn too.

UNC Pembroke history Professor Charles Beem calls his newest book, “The Name of a Queen,” one of his favorite projects.

John R. Jones III of DeKalb, Illinois, was named vice chancellor for Student Affairs at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke by a vote of the Board of Trustees, Chancellor Kyle Carter announced today.  He will join UNCP on June 3.

In a speech at UNC Pembroke, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory challenged higher education leaders to work smarter for the economic recovery of the state.

The University of North Carolina system’s governing body convened on the campus of UNC Pembroke on April 11 – 12.  It was the first time the UNC Board of Governors (BOG) had met at UNCP, and the first time in nearly two years they had held their meeting outside of Chapel Hill.  The meeting also included a visit by Governor Pat McCrory.
