UNC Pembroke sociologist Dr. Richard R. E. Kania loves a good detective story.

In his latest book, “The 1605 Waymouth Expedition to the Coast of Maine: An assessment of the Rosier Text,” he does a little sleuthing of his own. The book was published this fall by Carolina Press of Southern Pines, N.C.

Healthkeeperz, a regional, comprehensive home healthcare provider headquartered in Pembroke, N.C., announced a gift of $250,000 to endow a distinguished professorship in the Nursing Department at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

With a backdrop of 50 uniformed nursing students, UNC Pembroke and Southeastern Regional Medical Center (SRMC) celebrated a partnership and cut the ribbon September 15 on a new Instructional Technology Center.

UNCP launched its four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program this fall, and SRMC gave it a home in its renovated 9,800 square-foot Corporate Services Building. The program will enroll 200 students by 2007.

Lumbee Guaranty Bank will contribute $500,000 to The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

The gift from Pembroke’s hometown bank is the largest corporate gift in UNCP history. It is earmarked for the University’s “First and Ten Campaign for Football.”
