UNC Pembroke to offer Accelerated Online MBA program

August 22, 2017

The Graduate School at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is offering a more individualized and flexible avenue to a Master of Business Administration degree.

Applications are being accepted for an accelerated online MBA program. Classes begin October 23.

The total cost for the 36-credit-hour program is less than $8,500 for an in-state student taking two courses per term.

“This is an excellent opportunity for working and non-working students to obtain a first-rate MBA degree with outstanding faculty in online, seven-week courses,” said Dr. Irene Aiken, dean of The Graduate School.

Dr. Irene Aiken, Dean of The Graduate School“The attention this program is getting is phenomenal,” she said.

“Our dedicated faculty provide a dynamic experience for our MBA students and interest in the program has already grown trifold in the past few years but this flexible, accelerated program meets the needs of enterprising students eager to gain the knowledge and degree and we are already experiencing tremendous attention for and enrollment in this program,” Aiken said.

The accelerated program offers a great value and is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a distinction achieved by only five percent of business schools worldwide.

The program will be taught by full-time graduate faculty, according to Dr. Barry O’Brien, dean of the School of Business.

“All of the courses will meet the rigorous Quality Matters standard for excellence in online courses,” O’Brien said. “Our School of Business and our MBA programs are accredited by AACSB International, the gold standard for management education.”

Nick Arena, director of the MBA program, said he anticipates the accelerated version will dramatically increase the number of students in the program.

UNC Pembroke has been offering an online MBA program for two years. Arena said that those students enrolled in the online program will be allowed to continue in the current format or move to the accelerated schedule.

The goal of an accelerated program, Arena said, is to get students out of school and into the workforce as quickly as possible.

“As prospective students begin choosing a program that is the right fit for them, the accelerated degree program option is often a consideration,” said Arena, who holds an MBA from UNCP.

Nick Arena, MBA Program Director“We believe students will move faster through the program with this scheduling of classes and be able to concentrate on one or two courses at a time,” he said.

The accelerated MBA is the first of its kind at UNC Pembroke.

Also new to the accelerated program is a concentration in Business Analytics, in addition to concentrations in Supply Chain Management and Financial Services. The Business Analytics specialization is offered only to students enrolled in the accelerated program.

The accelerated program will be delivered in six, seven-week terms per year. There will be two terms offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

The primary features of the accelerated MBA will remain the same with regards to admissions requirements, program requirements and completion requirements.

The application deadline is October 9 for the October 23 start date, however, students can begin the program during any of the six terms with the second term beginning January 15, with an application deadline of January 1, 2018.

Additional enrollment specialists have been hired to assist with enrollment. They can be reached at 844.302.7886 or 919.926.7626.  Applications can be found at online.uncp.edu.
