Assessment Service Learning

Graduate counseling students enrolled in the Assessment Practices in Counseling course completed a service learning project on February 28.

After learning how to administer, score, and interpret results of mental health assessments in class, the counselors-in-training provided screenings in the University Center for UNCP students during Mental Health Awareness Week.

In coordination with the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), students were screened for anxiety, suicide ideation, depression, and hopelessness and direct referrals for mental health support were made when needed. Financial support for this project was provided by a grant from the UNCP Teaching and Learning center and a stipend from the Service Learning department.
