UNCP to hold 125th Anniversary Fun Run on March 23
The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will host a 125th Anniversary Fun Run on Saturday, March 23.
The event features a three-mile run/walk from the current campus to the original campus at New Hope Church in Pates community and back. The one-mile run/walk will be on a section of UNCP’s new Hawk Walk trail.
Members of the 1978 men’s NAIA National Champion cross country team and many UNCP All-Americans in track and cross country will be recognized and participate in the event.
Special entertainment, including games and music, will be provided. Chicken bog will be available for purchase after the event. A portion of the proceeds form the sale of the chicken bog will go toward supporting UNCP scholarships.
The run/walk will start at 10 a.m. on the lawn in front of the James B. Chavis University Center. Runners and walkers are encouraged to arrive between 9 and 9:30 a.m. to register.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at: www.uncp.edu/health/funrun/. Admission is free but donations will be accepted for the Arrowhead 1887 Scholarship.
The three-mile course, which will accommodate runners and walkers, will begin at the corner of the James B. Chavis University Center, run through the heart of campus, turn right onto Old Main Road, and continue past the Chancellor’s Residence down Old Main Road to New Hope Church.
The original campus was located immediately south of the church. Runners and walkers will return to campus on the same route. Old Main Road, between UNCP and St. Anna Road, will be closed to through traffic during the event.
The newly opened Hawk Walk trail, which snakes through campus, will host the one-mile run/walk.
Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Parking will be available in lots on the east side of the University Center and west of the Jones Health and Physical Education Center.
This event is being held in conjunction with UNC Pembroke’s 125th anniversary celebration.
