UNCP inducts 54 into Alpha Chi
The University of North Carolina, Pembroke announced the induction of 54 students into the N.C. Kappa Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.
“It’s a privilege for students to be inducted into this honor society,” said Dr. Scott Hicks, chapter co-sponsor and assistant professor of English and Theatre. “These students’ wonderful achievements testify that they exemplify the ideals of Alpha Chi membership: truth and character.”
Alpha Chi is a coeducational academic honor society with chapters nationwide. Since 1922, its purpose has been to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honor those who achieve this distinction.
At UNCP, senior students in the top 10 percent of their class and junior students in the top five percent of their class are invited to become members. During the academic year, members take part in community service and campus leadership.
The chapter’s leaders are Pamela Hughes, president; Hillary Akers, vice president; and Lori Vignali, secretary-treasurer.
“Dr. Hicks and I are looking forward to working with this year’s chapter officers,” said Dr. Teagan Decker, chapter co-sponsor and assistant professor of English and Theatre. “They have some wonderful ideas for community service projects.”
Dr. Beverly King, associate vice chancellor for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and professor of psychology, gave the keynote address at the induction ceremony on October 30.
