Sylvia Pate elected chair-elect of Committee of 100
Sylvia H. Pate, director of UNC Pembroke’s Regional Center for Economic, Community and Professional Development, was recently selected for a two-year term as chair-elect for the Robeson County Committee of 100.
Doug Mills of Cape Fear Construction was selected as the chairman. Mills will serve as chair for two years, and Pate will move up to the chairman's position for two years.
The Robeson County Committee of 100 was established in 1986 as a non-profit membership corporation and is dues driven. The initial membership goal was to recruit 100 members, with each member contributing $100 annually to be used in support of ongoing business and industry recruitment.
Since its inception, the Committee of 100 has provided assistance to many projects in the county. Membership is comprised of individuals and businesses that are committed to enhancing the economic growth of Robeson County.
“The Committee of 100 is a vital vehicle to aid economic development efforts in Robeson County,” Pate said.
The purpose of the Robeson County Committee of 100 is to:
- assist the local economic developers, assist existing industry,
- serve as a representative of the people of Robeson County in bringing together collective resources,
- organize and maintain a united county-wide commitment to economic development and growth,
- promote development of educational resources,
- promote job training to meet the needs of present and future businesses,
- promote diversity of our economic base,
- provide a means of responding to growth opportunities in a timely manner, and
- provide a source of funding when necessary, that is not permitted by governmental constraints.
Pate served in an ex-officio capacity on the Committee of 100's Board of Directors for six years as a representative of UNCP working with economic development efforts but was recently made a full-voting member.
