Dr. Angela Hausman to lead UNCP’s MBA program

Dr. Angela Hausman joined The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in late June as director of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program in the School of Business.

Angela HausmanDr. Hausman will also serve as assistant dean and associate professor of marketing. Cammie Hunt-Oxendine, acting dean of the school, said she is a welcome addition to the school.

“Dr. Hausman brings a vast amount of scholarly and business community engagement experience to the School of Business and UNCP,” Hunt-Oxendine said. “Her forward-thinking outlook and ‘can-do’ attitude will allow us to strategically build and brand our MBA program.”

A Pittsburgh, Pa., native, Dr. Hausman comes to the University from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. In her first weeks, she is working on the future of the MBA program.

“Right now, I am developing a strategic plan for the program,” Dr. Hausman said. “My goal is to identify and develop strategic competencies for our program so it is the first place people think of when they are looking for an MBA program.”

She said UNCP’s MBA program enjoys support from the University and has great potential for growth and outreach into the region’s business community.

“Historically, business schools are involved in economic development, and I will work to formalize some of those relationships,” Dr. Hausman said. “One of the things I am working on is forming a MBA Community Advisory Committee comprised of business and community leaders to make sure our program is providing the kind of training needed here.”

Relationships with the business community are a two-way street and a key component in training business leaders, she said.

“There is a symbiotic relationship between businesses and their local university,” Dr. Hausman said. “My undergraduate and graduate students have always had involvement with local businesses assisting them in growing their enterprises.

“When you’re engaged with the community, it’s easier to see where we can make an impact,” she continued.

Dr. Hausman would transform the traditional view of the MBA as a program for business managers only.

“An MBA degree is for everyone,” she said. “An MBA is helpful in almost every profession - education, government, healthcare, engineering, non-profits and business.

“An MBA degree is a bridge from being a professional to becoming a manager,” Dr. Hausman said.

As a scholar, her research interests include consumer behavior, Internet marketing and supply chain relationships. She consults with small businesses on research and marketing. She will participate in a faculty internship this summer with Grey Advertising, a global, full-service marketing firm in New York.

“Business is a very dynamic discipline, and research is what keeps faculty on top of their profession. It also distinguishes our institution,” Dr. Hausman said. “I teach vastly different today than I did 10 years ago.”

Articles by Dr. Hausman have appeared in top business and marketing journals, including the Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Business Research, Industrial and Marketing Management and Academy of Marketing Studies Journal among others.

Dr. Hausman has taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in international and electronic marketing, marketing strategy, entrepreneurship and industrial and service sector marketing.

She has developed online courses and courses for the classroom. At UNCP, she will have administrative duties.

“I have always been active in administrative matters, and I was looking for a new opportunity,” Dr. Hausman said. “Here, I have the chance to help guide programs.”

Before joining Xavier University, she was a faculty member at Marshall University and the University of Texas – Pan American. She earned Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees at the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida.
