Paul Willoughby joins UNCP’s Board of Trustees
Lumberton native and UNCP graduate Paul Willoughby was sworn in February 22 as a member of the Board of Trustees for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
A Durham,
N.C., resident, Willoughby is a 1973 graduate of UNCP. He and his wife
Pat, a 1976 UNCP graduate, are McDonald’s restaurant franchisees in
the Triangle area.
Willoughby was appointed by the UNC Board of Governors and will serve out the term of Sherry Prince, who resigned after seven years of service.
“The future for UNCP is really going to be exciting, and I feel fortunate to be a part of it as a member of the board,” Willoughby said. “With new residence halls and other expansion on campus, growth is in the future.”
Willoughby said football would also play a role in the University’s growth.
“I
hope to attend spring practice, and I have the first home game on my calendar,” he
said.
The family
has a long-time connection with UNCP. Their son, Rex, is a 2004 UNCP graduate
and was a four-year member of the golf team.
Paul was head football coach at Lumberton High School before joining WestPoint Pepperell Corp. in Lumberton and later becoming a McDonald’s franchisee.
Under the corporate umbrella of PPR Foods, Inc., the Willoughbys own five restaurants. In 2006, they joined the First and Ten Campaign for Football and Athletic Excellence. The new press box overlooking Lumbee Guaranty Bank Field will bear their names.
